From Industrial Space to Stylish Home

Isn't this great? 

Melbourne based designer Susie Cohen has remodeled an 1920's warehouse to a home, 

with lots and lots of natural light, wooden floors and whitewashed walls. 

The result - a very beautiful and stylish home. 

 All that natural light makes the space look so much larger than its 10 x 16 meters!

A stunning treehouse for your garden!

I've seen many treehouses this summer, but this must be the most spectacular one! 

It is constructed around an existing old oak tree on a local farm in Dartmoor, England, 

as a summer school project. 

The treehouse was completed in only five days 

as a collaborative exercise between students, 

Jerry Tate Architects and local carpenter Henry Russell. 

The materials were milled on site from locally felled 

spruce, larch and western red cedar.  

The robust structure includes an accessible walkway and a circular seating space.

Wouldn't you want a treehouse like this in your garden???

Let me show you some photos I took last week, while on vacation.

First, a bit of a roof structure at Nääs Byggnadsvård, 

and below some weeds in the lake by Nääs Castle & Crafts

Below - more water. This time sea water by the Swedish west coast, at 

the Nordic Watercolor Museum at Skärhamn. It was a beautiful day! 

Below - two pictures from the outdoor sculpture park at Pilane (not far from Skärhamn) 

First a detail of a giant granit sculpture by Claes Hake, 

and then some sheep below the stunning Japanese Temple, placed on a hill. 

And finally an evening shot of the setting sun  

by the small fishing village Nösund.

Reuse - Another kind of wabi sabi

I just saw this article in the mag Allt i Hemmet, 

and liked what this woman has done to an old Swedish cottage. It needed renovation, and 

she removed most modern surfaces and features, 

and replaced them with old items that was stored elsewhere on the farm.  

And then added some flea market finds.

I'm a big fan of the talented Norwegian blogger Moa. 

She takes the most beautiful photographs. 

Seemingly simple arrangement of everyday items. 

Now she and her blogger friend Holmberg has started their own 

online design magazine Sign.

Stunning new design

Stunning project by design student Sharon Sides. 

In her graduate work Sides has scanned arboreal patterns 

and then used the digital images to create objects, 

like these metal chairs called Stumps. Wow!

For these chairs Sharon Sides has transferred wooden ring patterns to metal sheets, 

which were then etched with acid to get the patina you see here. Me like. A lot!

Color your work space

If you - like me - have more stuff than you actually need, 

but still want to add yet another function to a space, 

go minimalistic. 

No spectacular color. 

No intricate shape. 

Just a line. Or two. Or more...

A world of wood

I love wood.

It ages well and is the obvious choice for a wabi sabi interior. 

Just look at this beautiful stair/storage by an unknown carpenter (above). 

Or designer Benno Vinatzer's  Amedea stool/table (below).  

How about wood to create interesting spaces (above - architect unknown), 

or a piece of art, like the sculpture below by french artist Xavier Veilhan.
